Dear President Donald Trump
My first car was a 1953 FJ Holden made in Australia with high tariff protection.
In 2017 the last locally-built Holden rolled off the production line ending the mass production of motor vehicles in Australia. Ford and Toyota exiting local production in 2016 and 2017 respectively.
Today, Toyota is the biggest producer of cars in the World. Nissen, Honda and Mitsubishi have just announced a merger.
The German brands of Mercedes, BMW, VW, etc are the most sought after cars especially by Asian People who see ownership as a symbol of success in life.
I recently hired a TAXI. It was a small Toyota. The owner driver told me these Toyota’s are operated for 11 years and 1 million kilometres. The oil is changed every week.
With 2% LIBERTY TAX, America and Australia can have a cost advantage to build local car production, based on exceptional performance, reliability, functionality, economy and affordability. Australians can look forward to FREEDOM of CHOICE, locally made or imported. American cars can become No.1
Kind regards
Derek Smith CA
