A Tariff of 25% will send America backwards.
In the 1970s I was the Managing Director of an Australian ASE listed Company manufacturing envelopes and paper packaging products. We converted paper supplied by two Australian Paper Mills which they supplied to their specifications not to ours. For some of our products we had to import paper and pay a tariff which increased the price of our product to our customers and limited our market growth, sales and profits.
We got the licence to make Jiffy Padded bags from the USA. This product required a particular type of kraft paper which the Australian Paper Mills did not make. We had to import this kraft paper and pay the tariff which increased the price of the Jiffy Padded bags to our customers including Australia Post. Again, limiting market growth, sales and profits.
There was no incentive for the Australian Paper Mills to do the research and invest in producing the paper products we need to grow our business with new products. The future of any industry is innovation and development of new technology products that meet the Customers requirements to grow their businesses.
America does NOT need a 25% Tariff. It urgently needs 2% LIBERTY TAX that takes EXISTING TAXES off COSTS and PRICES and only adds a single 2 cents in the dollar TAX to COSTS and PRICES to make Made In America competitive around the World.
